Skeptically Viewing Mom is descended from the tradition of talking back to the television.

As opposed to using the COVID-19 era image to the left, the author would have preferred to use a now lost image from her teens. In that still, both she and her mother are reclined on a made bed, but present a clear rejection of the content they’re viewing with sour expressions, upright posture, and outstretched hands.

Before earning her Mom credentials, Kimberly Steger had a fairly unconventional path in marketing communications across multiple sectors. She grew up around the country as an Air Force Brat with African American Southern roots.

She embraces becoming a late-in-life Mom. Witnessing the sense of discovery and wonder in her daughter fuels Kimberly’s own reinvention and self-discovery.

She resides in New York City.
